The T’boli community lives in the province of South Cotabato in Mindinao, Phillipines. One our next missions was planned for their area near Lake Sebu but had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Even so, we received a request for assistance, wondering if we could provide glasses for their senior citizens, many of whom are artisans and are known internationally for their beautiful jewelry and textiles. Without glasses, many of these people cannot work.
We reached out to Dr. Mymy Naguit, a MMOM USA volunteer optometrist in Pampanga. She had been storing the leftover reading glasses from the last mini-mission in 2020 and agreed to to coordinate shipment to the T’boli and provide instructions on how to test and dispense them. Another MMOM USA friend and volunteer, Ms. Lyn Buti Lambago, who is also a tribe historian and representative, received them and dispensed them at their next tribal gathering.
We received an outpouring of thanks along with these photos. Take a minute to look at their amazing craftsmanship and beauty of what they produce.
Thank you to to all of our donors and volunteers for helping to make this happen. And thank you Ms Lyn (below), for alerting us to this need.
